It is hardly possible to make basic specifications here. There are comparatively “bad players” who are better advised with a blade and relatively good players who should nevertheless rather bet on a player’s iron. You can’t make it dependent on the handicap alone. However, it is worthwhile to give a few basic recommendations which in any case makes NO sense:

  • A player hitting with high consistency and high clubhead speed definitely doesn’t need a player’s iron.
  • A player with a very low clubhead speed should not touch a blade that he probably can’t get into the air – no matter how accurately he hits the ball.
  • A player who is good enough to perform various strokes and variations (so-called shaping) should keep away from the player’s irons and some cavity backs that make this difficult.

But in the end, it is also a very individual question. So there are differences with very good players with high accuracy and swing speeds.

For example, one player wants as little offset as possible and therefore tends towards the blade, while the other wants as little punishment as possible for the few bad shots and reaches for the cavity back. Or some players want a club that is as thin as possible because it gives them a better feel in the setup position.

If we can only give one recommendation, it is this: if you are not on one side or the other of the spectrum in any way, you are best advised to use a cavity back iron. However, if you need maximum forgiveness, for example, or if you prefer little offset, you will tend to use a player’s iron or blade.

However, over the last decade or so, home cooks everywhere have rediscovered the many benefits of cast-iron cookware: First, cast iron is affordable, virtually indestructible, naturally nonstick, and has superior heat retention for even cooking and baking.

Plus, it’s available in a wide range of sizes and styles, including fry pans, grill pans, pots, pans, waffle irons, and Dutch ovens. And finally, many home cooks are switching to cast iron as a healthy alternative to aluminum and traditional nonstick pans.

However, despite all the well-established benefits of cast iron, some people are still a bit reluctant to make the switch, and here’s why: Cast iron has a reputation for being difficult to clean and quick to corrode, which isn’t completely unfounded.

That’s because if it’s not properly maintained and seasoned, cast iron will rust and food will stick. And to make things more complicated, there’s much confusion about the best way to clean cast iron and whether or not you should use soap and water.

All well-maintained cast-iron pans will become more nonstick with time. While you might think this will take years, we found a significant difference in our pans after just a few weeks of regular use in the test kitchen.

However, even new preseasoned pans are not always 100% nonstick when you first cook with them, and a well-seasoned pan will still become less nonstick without proper maintenance, so it’s important to treat your cast-iron pan with care.

Properly maintaining the seasoning on your pan begins with properly cleaning it. Here are a few guidelines for keeping your pan in optimal shape. (These guidelines are for traditional cast-iron pans; enameled pans can be treated more like other pots and pans.)

The Science of Seasoning

When fat or cooking oil is heated for a long enough time in cast iron, its fatty acids oxidize and reorganize together (or “polymerize”) into a new plastic-like layer of molecules. This layer becomes trapped within the pitted surface of the pan and bonds to the metal itself, creating the slick coating known as seasoning.

Repeated exposure to hot oil continues to build on this coating, making it more slippery and durable. That’s why even though most pans these days come with a factory seasoning, the surface will become even more nonstick with repeated use.

In other words, It’s important to season cast iron before using it for the very first time, and again after cleaning with hot, soapy water or oven cleaner. Seasoning makes the pan easy to clean, prevents rust, and keeps food from sticking.

What Does “Well-Seasoned” Mean?

A well-seasoned pan will have a dark, semi-glossy finish and won’t be sticky or greasy to the touch. It won’t have any rust or dull or dry patches. An easy way to test a pan’s seasoning is to fry an egg (heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat for 3 minutes, then add egg). If your pan is well-seasoned, you should not experience any major sticking.

Use the Right Oil

The more unsaturated the oil, the more readily it will oxidize and polymerize. We have found that flaxseed oil, which oxidizes and polymerizes faster than other vegetable oils, forms a particularly durable seasoning. But cheaper oils such as sunflower and soybean are also highly unsaturated and work fine.

Major Service

Over the lifetime of a cast-iron pan, you’ll usually just maintain or touch up its seasoning. But if the seasoning becomes very dull or damaged (seasoning flakes off) or if it badly rusts (can’t be scrubbed away), you’ll need to give it an overhaul by stripping and reseasoning the surface. If this happens, use these steps to strip a cast-iron pan—that is, completely remove any residual seasoning on a cast-iron pan before re-seasoning it.

Easy-Off is a caustic alkali, so be sure to work outdoors, wear rubber gloves, and avoid spraying near your face or skin. The pan will rust instantly after the seasoning has been stripped, so immediately apply oil to the surface and proceed with oven repair after step 4.

  • Working outdoors, place a concrete block on the ground and cover it with a heavy-duty kitchen trash bag, draping bag over the block so that sides will be easy to grasp and pull up over the pan.
  • Place the pan upside down on top of the block. Wearing rubber gloves, spray pan all over with Easy-Off Oven Cleaner, being careful to keep the spray away from your face and exposed skin. Flip pan over and spray inside. Pull the plastic bag up and around the pan and tie to close. Leave outside (or in the garage) for 24 hours.
  • Still wearing rubber gloves, remove the plastic bag and scrub pan all over with steel wool and hot soapy water to remove all residue. Rinse, repeat scrubbing, and rinse again.
  • Combine 2 cups each white distilled vinegar and water. Fill the pan with vinegar solution and let stand for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Discard the solution in a pan and use the remaining solution to wipe outside of the pan. Rinse well and immediately apply oil to the surface.

How to Clean Your Cast Iron Pans

Most often you can clean a cast-iron pan by simply wiping it down with a dry paper towel or cotton dishcloth. If the pan is well seasoned, bits of burnt, stuck-on food will come right off. If any stubborn bits remain, scrape them off with a plastic spatula.

If dry wiping doesn’t get the pan clean, use a scrubber and some water. Now, many people would shriek in horror at the thought of washing cast iron in water, mostly because of the increased risk of rusting, but when properly done, there’s nothing to worry about.

Place the pan in the sink, add about ½ inch or so of warm water, then sprinkle in a half cup of coarse Kosher salt. Immediately scrub the pan with a stainless-steel scrubber or ordinary kitchen sponge. The salt will act as an abrasive to cut through food remnants.

Rinse the pan clean with water, then—to prevent rusting—place the pan in 350º oven for 10 minutes until it’s completely dry. (You can also dry it out on the cooktop.)

Using a potholder, remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool slightly, just five minutes or so. Then, while it’s still warm, drizzle into the pan a little flaxseed oil, soybean oil, or other neutral-flavor vegetable oil. (Don’t use olive oil or bacon fat, which can turn rancid.) Fold a paper towel into a small square and use it to wipe the oil into the surface of the cast-iron pan.

If you discover small rust spots on the pan, use the salt-scrub technique mentioned above to remove light surface corrosion. However, for heavily rusted cast iron, you’ll need to be a little more aggressive: Fill the pan with hot, soapy water, then scrub with a steel-wool pad or, better yet, a metal chain-mail scrubber.

If that doesn’t work, take the pan outside and spray it with oven cleaner. Wait 10 minutes, then scrub off the rust with steel wool and soapy water. Thoroughly rinse the pan in clean water, dry it in an oven or on the cooktop, then wipe it down with oil.

Active Cooling Pads

An active cooling pad uses small fans to create extra airflow around the chassis of the laptop, thus pulling the heat away from the laptop. If you have a choice between an active cooling pad or a passive one, you should always go for the one with fans.   • Pick your spot

First, you need to figure out where that TV will sit. Will you use the included stand, or do you want to stick the TV on a wall mount? Is your set close enough to a power outlet? Is it in a position to either get a strong Wi-Fi signal or connect over Ethernet? Are you close enough to connect to your antenna or cable connection? The one exception to this rule is Samsung, which offers an option to automatically set up your TV using a smartphone. The set will communicate with your Samsung phone (or another smartphone that uses the Samsung SmartThings app) and share Wi-Fi credentials.

It lets you select from apps already used on the phone to install on the TV, and it logs in to your accounts for those apps.

  • Connect your devices

While a smart TV may take center stage, it’s also going to be connected to a number of other devices, like a cable or satellite box, game console, and media players.

Whether you’re setting up a game console on your LG TV, a cable box on your Samsung TV, or a Blu-ray player on your Sony TV, the basics are pretty much the same.

With the TV turned on, you can connect and power-on your external device, but note which input you’ve plugged the HDMI cable into. Once the device is powered on, the TV should automatically detect the device and add it to your input menu.

Once you’ve found the device in your input menu, you can rename the input and adjust the settings. On some TVs, such as Sony’s smart TVs, you may need to adjust the settings for that specific input in order to enable all of the available features; gaming in 4K and HDR, for example, requires enabling those features for the specific HDMI port.

On the other hand, Samsung smart TVs offer excellent auto-detection and should adjust the input settings accordingly, without your having to do anything.

  • Connect your antenna

For over-the-air channels (which are free!), you’ll need to connect an HDTV antenna and scan for channels.

This is a fairly simple process, and your TV should walk you through it automatically. Specific instructions for LG, Samsung, and Sony TVs are available, but the basics should all be the same.

However, watch out for “home theater displays,” which look like TVs but technically aren’t, since they lack RF connections and TV tuners. This was especially common on older Vizio TVs, but current Vizio models have the tuner and connector you’ll need.

First, connect your antenna to the TV’s RF connector, the screw-on coaxial connector found alongside HDMI and audio ports on the back or side of the TV.

The TV will detect the new signal and should automatically scan for channels. If not, you should be able to select Scan for Channels or something similar under the antenna-input option on the home screen.

The system will scan through all of the possible channels, identifying every channel that has a signal. Once the scanning is done, you can pull up the channel guide. This should populate automatically with information about what shows are on which channels, all in a handy, on-screen guide.

  • Fine-tune your settings

Once you have everything else set up, all that’s left is the fine-tuning. This may involve adjusting the TV’s color and brightness settings, tweaking the appearance of the home screen and menus, or even disabling unwanted content recommendations.

You also have plenty of features to explore, from using voice interaction to connecting a soundbar or pair of Bluetooth headphones. Each model and manufacturer will have a unique mix of capabilities, but you should be able to learn most of them by looking through the TV’s menus and maybe reading the owner’s manual.

Similarly, the acclaimed massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft recommends quad-core processors as well: Intel i7-4770 (4 cores, 8 threads) or AMD FX-8310 (8 cores, 8 threads) or better.

The hugely popular online open-world game of Grand Theft Auto V recommends an Intel i5 3470 (4 cores, 4 threads) or AMD FX-8350 (8 cores, 8 threads). And the epic battle royale game of Fortnite Battle Royale recommends at least an Intel i5 2.8 GHz processor with 4 cores and 4 threads.

Which CPU is optimal for each GPU?

We would like to conclude with a list of specific recommendations that will ease the task of selecting a CPU that accompanies each GPU. If you want the experience to be really optimal, you must know that we are not going to limit ourselves to choosing the most expensive processor models. But those that also offer good value for money.

  • GTX 1080 TI: The optimum level is based on a Core i5 8400 or a Ryzen 5 1600. In the case of older processors, the Core i7 6700 or higher will comply with no problem.
  • GTX 1070 TI, GTX 1080, or Radeon RX Vega 64: We also recommend a Core i5 8400 or a Ryzen 5 1600. The Core i7 4790 can also offer an optimal experience.
  • GTX 1070: Starting with a Core i3 8100 or a Ryzen 3 1200 with overclocking you can enjoy a good experience. In processors of previous generations, you should start with a Core i5 4690.
  • GTX 1060 (3 GB/6 GB), Radeon RX 570-580: We also recommend that you start with a Core i3 8100 or a Ryzen 3 1200 with overclocking.

In the case of lower graphics cards, such as the GTX 1050-1050 TI and Radeon RX 560 a modest Pentium G4560 will allow you to take advantage of them, but for longer life, we recommend going for a processor with four cores like the Ryzen 3 1200.

What specifications does the CPU for gaming have?

Original CPU models had only a single processing core, however technological advancements have seen this change to multiple cores that have significantly enhanced performance. You will find that majority of the CPU’s being sold now have a minimum of a dual-core.

There are also others with a quad-core, six, eight, and even some as high as 12 core. There are those with a multi-threading aspect that is meant to create a virtual processor core.

Another aspect of the CPU is clock speed. This is usually labeled as GHz, i.e. gigahertz. This component indicates the number of commands your CPU can handle in a second. The clock speed helps you to make a comparison of two devices that are from the same generation and have seemingly similar specifications.

Therefore, if two devices have the same aspects, you can make a choice based on the clock speed. However, it is important to note that a 3GHz processor from the year 2012 cannot be as fast as a 2GHz processor manufactured in 2019.

Factors to consider when sourcing for a processor

  • Consider purchasing the latest generation components to get value for your money.
  • More expensive devices do not necessarily translate to the best performance. For example, Intel 9900k being highly-priced does not offer better performance compared to other models such as the 8700k. The 9900k model does not have the aspect of hyper-threading.
  • Consider whether you want to use your device for both play and work. If you want your device to be multi-purpose, the AMD model is likely to give you better performance with its extra threads and cores that provide a significant performance improvement.
  • Consider the Thermal Design Profile (TDP), which is the highest heat amount that is generated by the chip. This will help you get a cooler that can handle the heat. Keep in mind that overclocked CPU’s can put out more heat compared to those that are not overclocked.
